Our History

Coach Gordy Schoeller ‘The Stache’August 12, 1996, The Woodland High School opened its doors. Coach Gordy Schoeller ‘The Stache’, who was coaching at McCullough High School since 1982, continued to coach at The Woodlands High School as the Varsity coach.

2003, Coach Hans Kleinschmidt takes over the job as Varsity Coach, Coach Kleinschmidt coached at Huntsville High School (1991-1995) and Berkner High School in Richardson (1996-2003).

2010, the team qualified to the final 4 at the State Championship under the leadership of Kleinschmidt and Schoeller.

2015, Coach Gordy Schoeller retires (under protest). His coaching record was 274-96-23. He and his wife Susan still reside in The Woodlands, and every now and again we will find him on the sidelines or in the stands, cheering our young men onto victory!

2016, Coach Jason Fanning joins as an assistant coach. Coach Fanning was a head coach at Oak Ridge (2008-2013), and assistant coach for the Lady War Eagles (2014-2015).

2018, Coach Jason Fanning is promoted to Head Coach. Coach Kleinschmidt is stepping down and taking on a role of an assistant coach and mentor within the program.

2021, Coach Kleinschmidt retires and moves to his beloved Colorado, he leaves with a record of 303-56-44. The freshmen team he coached in 2021 gave him an undefeated, zero goals against during the entire season, goodbye present.

2022, the team qualified for the State Championship for the first time since 2010, this time under the leadership of Coach Fanning.
