Johannes Kleinschmidt

Coach Hans Kleinschmidt enters his 17th season coaching the varsity at the Woodlands High School after teaching and coaching at Huntsville High School (1991-1995) and Berkner High School in Richardson (1996-2003). The Highlanders have earned 10 consecutive district championships and have made 9 appearances in the regional tournament in the past 12 seasons with a state final four appearance in 2010. His Highlander teams have a record of 287-53-43. His oldest son, Andrew (15′), is a Highlander Soccer alumni and currently proudly serving in the United States Army; middle son Matt (’16) is also a Highlander Soccer alumni and currently at Texas A&M University, and his youngest son, Aiden, is a current Powell Panther and will  be in the Highlander Class of 2026.


Jason Fanning

Coach Jason Fanning enters his second year on the Highlander Soccer staff. During that first season he helped the Highlanders to their 10th straight district title and earned the Region II Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2017 season.  Coach Fanning’s soccer experience includes head coaching positions at Alvin and Oak Ridge High schools and assistant positions at Channelview and Deer Park High Schools.  While in Alvin, Coach Fanning took an 0-25 team from the previous year to the play-offs and earned the 2007 Coach of the Year for Brazoria County. He has also been involved with various club programs from the Dynamo Academy to Texans Soccer Club in Klein. Coach Fanning attended Missouri University of Science and Technology where he majored in History and was a 3-year letter winner in football. Coach Fanning is happily married to wife Jessica and they share two amazing children Cooper, and Bailey.


Matt Williams

Coach Matt Williams enters his 2nd year of coaching for the Highlander soccer program. Coach Williams worked previously at McCullough Junior High (2008-2014), where he coached football and track for 6 years.  He then coached at Marble Falls High School for two years (2014-2016) before returning to continue the Tradition with the Highlander family. Coach Williams is a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of ’08, where he majored in Kinesiology, and is proud to be working with the Highlander Soccer program.


Lascelles McCarthy, III

Coach Lascelles McCarthy III enters his is 1st season coaching at The Woodlands High school after teaching and coaching at Pflugerville High School and Reagan Early College High School in Austin.  Lascelles coached the Sam Houston Men’s Soccer program (1998-2000) in which the team earned a Conference Championship (NAIA). In his time at Pflugerville, Lascelles assisted in 2 state playoff starts.  Aside from coaching Varsity programs he has been a technical trainer for The City of Huntsville U-12 Trainer (1998-2001) and North Houston Soccer Club (2001-2005). He is married with 2 children:  3 yr old Lascelles the 4th (nickname “I.V.”) and an 18mo old Marina. They dabble in the soccer thing!


Gordy Schoeller

Coach Gordy Schoeller coached 34 legendary years at McCullough/The Woodlands High School. As The Woodlands Highlander Soccer Varsity Coach from 1982-2002, his coaching record was 274 -96-23. From 2003 until his protested retirement in December, 2015, Coach Schoeller prepared Freshman Highlanders for their Varsity roles and mentored many teenaged boys.  “The Stache” as the boys affectionately call him, is a native of Minnesota. He and his wife Susan still reside in The Woodlands, and The Highlander Soccer family hopes to see him every now and again on the sidelines or in the stands, cheering our young men onto victory!
